Absolve (coloring)

This base coloring was done by Kishi and I just lit it up at the end of the process. I offered the tiny vector crown and the rest of the cover letter work was done by Kishi. I'm amazed at how our logos match!!

For this comic, I decided to use heavy photobashing from the cinematic itself to achieve the backgrounds. The number of pages, the amount of time and budget really did call for a quicker, less painterly solution.

Every background was warped, filtered and recolored to match every scene, and then hidden as much as possible with lights and effects.

Since this whole story is a story about light and shadows, I decided that I wanted the whole thing to have an almost ethereal, prismatic look. Points of light fluctuate and reflect on Isolde's ghost body and the mist engulfing the place.

My Black Mist patented coloring mode (TM) allows me to give it that unhealthy black-greenish look while keeping it graphic and distinct, as if it's almost a tangible vector of smoke rather than a foggy painted addition.

Isolde's body is ghastly, so it's partially transparent. It has different shades of blue as per Kishi's references, but it's glowy and you can see through it. Sometimes I went freehand painting behind it, such as Viego's missing body parts XD

While Viego and Isolde speak, the surroundings are still blue-green ish and mostly dark. I started adding sparkles of purple and lighter reflects as Isolde regained consciousness and began speaking.

The more Isolde is anguished, the more the surroundings turn purple, in contrast with the blue-ish atmosphere.

I added a few touches to Viego, such as the glowy, almost candle-like crown trail and the glowing in his eyes. Also, the more Viego agitates, the more chaotic the mist goes.

Enhancing the glow in Viego's eyes as he goes more feral was my cherry on top.

The appearance of Akshan brings a bright yellow hue to the scene, as much as the sun is rising over our dead husband tragic dream. As soon as Akshan appears, I started adding colors to the surrounding with a series of warm overlays.

Whenever Isolde's ghost touches Viego, she leaves glowing handprints that linger a little. Kishi decided that they had to look to match Viego's later statue-turning blessed mist coloring, so I started adding blue patches everywhere!

Viego cries glowy tears, which are not real tears, but I wanted to show the feral light in his eyes melting away as if it was water.

The blue patches of Isolde touching Viego enlarge when she touches him longer and then fade when she removes her hands.

The swirling core of Isolde's soul grows lighter and more graphic whenever she does something that requires spiritual energy. Shoving your crying husband away turns her into a sparkly blue lamp.

Getting the perfect prism for Isolde's sacrifice has been challenging, I wanted it to look as if it's dawning through a stained glass. Akshan's weapon is the Sun.

As Isolde's ghost fades, Viego's mist goes rampant, and I tried to make it look like aching tentacles.

In here you can see Viego crying actual tears - and also Senna sucking his black mist away.

We kept the lighting of Senna's weapon as graphic as possible, while making it turbo-yellow to wipe the final of the black mist away. Gwen's needles are the same shades of blue as Isolde's ghost.

Viego is turned into a snowglobe as his body freezes. Also, look! No bleeding triangle! The atmosphere is now yellow and gold, indicating the nightmare is over.
